S2E1 // SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY
Marathon of Mental Performance
Sports psychology helps athletes develop concentration, composure, competence and consistency. Those hallmarks of elite performance are highlighted throughout 2020 as the Tokyo Olympic Games draw near. Atlanta hosted the 1996 Games and reflects on its gold medal moment as the US Olympic Marathon Trials come to Atlanta, with the start line in Centennial Olympic Park.
In this episode, Northside licensed sports psychologist Adam Shunk discusses what it takes to succeed in the marathon and other elite-level competitions.
Shunk was himself a world-class athlete as a high jump champion and he tells how a setback motivated him to become a sports psychologist.
He also talks about how techniques for visualizing athletic success translates to everyday life.
